The Napoleonic Gardens in the hart of Venice

71st Venice International Film Festival


The 71st Venice International Film Festival, organized by La Biennale di Venezia, will run on Venice Lido from 27th August to 6th September 2014, directed by Alberto Barbera.

The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. The Festival also organizes retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.

55 films will be screened, of which twenty films are in competition in the “Venice 71” and 17 in “Horizons”. Among the topics, the economic crisis and the war, represented in a modern and as historical reconstruction, finallythe relationship between cinema and literature, in recent years more and more strong. “Birdman” by Alejandro González Iñárritu, starring Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, will be presented at the opening.

The big news of the 14. Biennale of Architecture is that all sectors of the Biennial will be involved in the show. The Exhibition section entitled Monditalia at the Corderie dell’Arsenale, in fact involves all the sectors of the Biennale: Dance, Music, Theatre and Cinema. These activities have been called upon to represent the essential elements in the life of historic cities and in the complex spaces for which architecture may be conceived and imagined.

Starting June 7th, when the Architecture Biennale opens to the public, the Corderie dell’Arsenale will host ongoing Dance activities.  Six different kinds of stages have been installed for the presentation of all sorts of events that will take place in a continuous cycle, at a scheduled time, or spontaneously, thereby creating a changing exhibition every day. This is an unusual situation for choreographers and dancers alike, and for the visiting public: dance will be measured against and change in relation to the space and timeframe of the exhibition, the freedom of the spectator/visitor and his direct gaze, the “exposed” narration of a work in progress, where the public dimension overlaps with the traditionally intimate dimension of creation.

“Fundamentals” is the title of the 14. 2014 International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, directed by Rem Koolhaas and organized by the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta. It will be open to the public from Saturday, June 7th to Sunday, November 23, 2014, at the Giardini and the Arsenale.

The exhibition brings together three complementary exposition, which enlight the past, present and future of architecture: “Absorbing modernity 1914-2014” at the national pavilions, “Elements of Architecture” at the Central Pavilion, and “Monditalia”  at the Arsenale, the ideal stage for the representation of a single theme, Italy, with theatrical performances and events that will affect the architecture, politics, economics, religion and industry.
